On the quality of life side, we now show on the map what provinces have already been raided when you have a raid army selected. However, to keep holy orders as vassals, the liege should ensure that grandmasters have at least -20 opinion of them, otherwise the grandmaster may declare independence and leave the realm(with no way to stop them).

In my most recent Ironman game I went back to basics and played as the count of Dublin, upon securing Ireland I gave the southern duchy (horrible at remembering names) over to my own vassle republic to help get an early jump on income.

Just keep them as #1 priority on the happiness meter. Lots of ships, lots of money, not so many troops except when they rebel (they tend to buy lots of mercenaries). As mentioned they make bad enemies but also powerful allies that pay taxes. I usually try to make at least one as well.
